The goal of this course is to improve the quality of care by training caregivers in the development of the child from five to eight. School-age children have unique developmental needs and require a different approach to teaching, supervising and entertaining. Caregivers need to be resourceful, flexible, organized and energetic. Objectives of the class include understanding the needs of school-age children, recognizing influences on development, identifying quality school age care, developing school age programs, communicating with parents, working with the exceptional child, and understanding the development of the child from five to eight. To provide quality care and activities, caregivers need to understand the development that takes place during these years. Upon completion of this training, caregivers will know what to expect from school-age children. In addition, caregivers will have the skills and techniques to provide them within a safe, caring and stimulating environment.
Lessons consist of: Concepts in Child Development, Language Development, Cognitive Development, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Children Who Are Exceptional
