Pre-K Early Language and Literacy

Pre-K Early Language and Literacy offers a comprehensive course designed to educate and equip early childhood educators to provide a robust literacy environment for all the children under their care. Drawing from the Science of Reading (SoR), LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), and gold-standard research, the course integrates key concepts with practical, developmentally appropriate strategies for daily implementation. Participants will engage with various resources such as homework assignments, journal articles, teaching suggestions, discussion prompts, and group coaching sessions, enriching their instructional practices. Look for Pre-K ELL Unit I: Establishing the Foundation for Language, Unit II: Creating Connections for Phonological Awareness, and Unit III: Learning the Essential Elements of Print Knowledge.


Pre-K ELL: Unit 1 helps early educators:

  • Advance understanding of how 3- to 5-year-old children develop language and literacy skills and why it is crucial to develop these skills
  • Explore strategies and activities that can be used in everyday classroom experiences to support language and literacy development
  • Develop skills for involving families and children in language and literacy experiences at home
  • Make language and literacy experiences enjoyable for educators, children, and families

Pre-K ELL: Unit 1 includes the following lessons:

  1.   The Foundation for Language and Literacy Learning  2 hours
  2.  Language and Literacy in Supportive Enviornments  2 hours
  3. Tools for Responsive Climates and Relationships  2 hours
  4. Instructional Activities with Intentional Play  2 hours
  5. Fostering Language and Culture within Families  2 hours

Pre-K ELL: Unit 1 offers the following to all participants:

  • Up to 10 hours of professional development credit from the Arkansas Professional Development Registry and the Arkansas Department of Education
  • Available for anyone to enroll in FREE OF CHARGE
  • FREE course materials and access to in-depth content, including a participant manual and other resources
  • Up to 1.0 Continuing Education Units, upon request
  • Certificate of Completion and Verification of Training Hours, upon request
  • Opportunity to collaborate and build community engagement with other industry experts
