Early Math and Numeracy

The goal of Early Math and Numeracy is to help early educators recognize and support the mathematical thinking that occurs naturally throughout children’s play, routines, conversations, and everyday experiences. This course offers early educators the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of foundational math concepts while examining how young children develop number sense, mathematical reasoning, patterns, measurement, comparison, geometry, and spatial understanding.

Early educators will explore how intentional questioning, scaffolding, feedback, mathematical language, observation, and documentation can extend children’s thinking and problem-solving. They will also connect math learning to the Arkansas Child Development and Early Learning Standards (Arkansas CDELS) and the Kindergarten Readiness Indicator Checklist (KRIC) while planning meaningful, developmentally appropriate math experiences.
